Nigel Slater calls Long Pepper “The most beautiful spice of all”.
In case you missed it, he created a great Long Pepper Strawberry Palmier in last week’s Observer magazine (link below). Not inspired by the traditional strawberries and black pepper combo he replaces black with long – something we heartily recommend, especially with fruit desserts.
Nigel was introduced to Long Pepper by Tom here at Peppermongers on BBC1′s ‘Nigel Slater’s Simple Cooking’ in October and he gave Peppemongers a namecheck in the Observer article (thanks Nigel). He says:
“Long and thin rather than round, I often think this is the most beautiful spice of all. The flavour, a little deeper and, I think, sweeter than the norm, seems to lend itself to desserts. I was introduced to it by Tom Alcott of the Bristol-based Peppermongers, who stirred it into cream to accompany raspberries.”
